Applications are invited for a Post CCT Fellow within the Head & Neck Oncology Service based within the ENT Directorate at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. This H&N service forms part of the South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw & North Derbyshire Cancer Alliance. The fellowship is for a fixed term of 12 months and the aim is to provide sub-specialist training in Head and Neck Surgery following completion of higher surgical training for those who are committed to a career in head and neck surgery. Applicants should be Post CCT or within 6 months of completion of Training (ST7 or equivalent) at the time of interview. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Successful candidate will have the opportunity to be exposed to tertiary level Head and Neck Surgery. This post will allow the successful candidate to further his or her knowledge and experience in Head and Neck Oncological surgery including major complex cancer resection and reconstruction, Transoral Laser Microsurgery and Transoral Robotic Surgery, open and endoscopic airway techniques. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in diagnosis and treatment of UADT cancer and benign pathology, including transoral laser phonosurgery. The Sheffield ENT Directorate has particular expertise in the management of head and neck malignancy and in advanced techniques of reconstruction and rehabilitation following surgery. This service attracts many tertiary referrals from the served catchment area. The work is carried out in close liaison with Neurosurgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Oncologists. Sheffield is the main centre for Head & Neck Cancer, with a single MDT serving the North Trent area. General on-call responsibilities covering adults and children are included. The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a licence to practise in line with the introduction of revalidation on 16 November 2009 and will be within 6 months of achieving CCT or equivalent .
