Main duties of the job To Deputise in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse coordinating the team and delegating appropriate duties. Work without direct clinical/ medical supervision to monitor patient’s postoperative condition. Managerial Role Participate in the departmental rota to deputise for the Theatre Manager/Lead of Professions as and when required. Monitoring and ordering of stocks and supplies, rotating stock as necessary and notify senior members of staff when applicable. Ensuring the speciality budget is adhered to at all times and advise procurement of potential savings where appropriate. Ensure a lean methodology is utilised with regards to stock ordering and stock holding, Non stock requisitions, ensuring that the minimum amount of consumables is held within the department whilst maintaining safe stock levels to meet service demand. Maintain high visibility within the clinical area ensuring that patients/visitors, staff, and the multi-disciplinary team, are secure at all times, and that access to the department remains restricted and secure. Ensure that all issues relating to the implementation of patient quality and safety are addressed/ monitored. Know where and how to access all policies and procedures and adhere to them/ and assist in producing/ updating new polices as and when required. Participate in the induction of new staff to the Department. Enter data onto the IQ Utopia patient record system, and proactively monitor all staff in the department to ensure that this is maintained. To act as a role model at all times. To keep the Theatre Manager or nominated deputy / co-ordinator informed of significant changes in the day to day operational status in the department. To participate in regular meetings within the department and wider trust including regular Matrons meetings both internal and external. This will involve attendance to clinical governance (internal Theatres and divisional), theatre Matrons and trust Matrons monthly meeting.- To participate in the Nurse/ Practitioner In Charge/ Anaesthetic Co-ordinator ensure the day to day operational running of theatres if maintained. This will include daily/weekly review of theatre lists in conjunction with a Clinical lead. Attend bed meetings as required and assist the capacity team in ensuring safe and effective management of bed stock is adhered to/ whilst ensure theatre lists run on time. Actively participating and monitoring in conjunction with the theatre Manager/ Lead of Professions the theatre utilisation, ensuring optimum use of staffing, supplies and theatre list time. Special focus will be monitoring the theatre list start times and identifying/ troubleshooting barriers.
