The successful candidate will be part of an NIHR funded innovative feasibility trial of a novel cognitive rehabilitation intervention for children treated for brain tumour at GOSH. The postholder will have a key role within the trial research team, including delivering, supervising, and monitoring the outcomes of a new psychological intervention, and co-ordination of day-to-day trial activities. You will be accountable to and receive supervision from the study Co-Principal Investigators, Dr Charlotte Malcolm and Professor Faraneh Vargha-Khadem, and Neuropsychology service co-lead Dr Tara Murphy. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly experienced and regarded clinical service and research team within an international centre of excellence in child healthcare. The Neuropsychology service is one of eight streams within the hospital’s Department of Psychological Services. It provides diagnostic neuropsychology assessments for children and young people with various neurological conditions, including epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, neuro-oncology, neuro-immunology, neurovascular disorders, and traumatic brain injury, etc. Assessments involve a range of techniques, including neuropsychological testing and structural/functional neuroimaging. The neuropsychology clinical service works in close collaboration with the Cognitive Neuroscience & Neuropsychiatry Section of the Developmental Neurosciences Department at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH), amounting to a group of approximately 25 clinicians and academics engaged in clinical and experimental neuroscience research. It is therefore an excellent setting in which to develop expertise and experience in this area. The service also actively supports the MSc/PG Diploma in Applied/Paediatric Neuropsychology courses at GOS ICH. The successful candidate will have experience of working clinically with children and young people, and a demonstrable interest in clinical paediatric neuropsychology and developing psychological interventions for children with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions.
