Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive. A subdivision within SNBTS is Patient Services directorate. The directorate provides clinical, technical, and scientific services and advice. There are four hospital Blood Banks located strategically across NHS Scotland, including services to provide Immunohaematology reference work, Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics in support of donors and transplantation, Clinical Apheresis and delivery of the Transfusion Team programme across Scotland. The Post Please note: the title ‘healthcare support worker’ within this role relates to medical laboratory assistance and is not patient facing. This post is based in Despatch Hub, a department based as part of Glasgow Patient Services. The role will mainly surround providing blood components for hospitals in the West of Scotland. This by issuing components through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), packaging and despatching on various methods of transport. Additional responsibilities within this post will include assisting Biomedical Scientists in Patient Services laboratory, with tasks such as: sample reception, equipment maintenances and general housekeeping. The Candidate This post provides a challenging role for a motivated individual to be able to work in a busy and changing environment. The post requires team working and excellent interpersonal skills and you will be required to work flexibly to meet the SNBTS corporate objectives. SNBTS patient services provide support to clinical and hospital services 24 hours, 7 days a week. Staff working in identified areas / departments, will participate in departmental shifts to support these services. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency. The work pattern will involve 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm; 7pm-7am. These are both nightshifts and dayshifts. It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
