Chief Constable Tim De Meyer & Chief Constable Jo Shiner The Role & Key Responsibilities From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. The primary role is to look after the health and welfare of Police dogs housed in the Dog Training School kennels. This includes dogs and puppies in training as well as Operational Police dogs. The successful applicant must have the ability to maintain a high standard of care to all dogs housed at the school by providing adequate exercise, enrichment and ensuring the kennels, runs and exercise areas are kept to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. The kennel team are directly responsible for grooming, administering medication, carrying out vet visits, health checks, feeding and the clearing of dog excrement. You would be expected to supervise deliveries of stock ensuring the correct stock is delivered and where appropriate to assist with unloading deliveries. Accurate completion of daily admin tasks such as taking kennel bookings, allocating of kennel space and completion of daily kennel and behaviour records. The applicant will be expected to assist with the Force breeding programme, caring for the health and welfare of litters of puppies at the school and helping to providing continual development and environmental awareness. Skills & Experience It is essential the post-holder has a genuine interest in the care and welfare of animals and has at least 18 months of experience working within a kennel environment. This is a physically demanding role, it is essential the post-holder has a good level of fitness, stamina and the ability to handle large breeds of dog. It is essential the post-holder is able to lone work and also communicate and work well within a team. It is essential the post-holder is the holder of a full licence to drive motor vehicles (manual) and preferably experience in driving vehicle similar in size to a Ford transit. It is essential for the post-holder is computer literate with appropriate key board skills. It is essential the post-holder has the ability to work under pressure, is able to prioritize their work load with the capacity to be flexible in their approach whilst working to time scales. It is preferable the post-holder holds an appropriate animal based qualification. This post includes weekend working and some public holidays.
