We are currently looking for a new altered airway specialist nurse (to include both tracheostomies and laryngectomies) to join our ENT/Head and Neck team. If you are competent and confident in looking after patients with altered airways this could be an exciting opportunity for you. The team works with patients with both acute and long term airway issues from Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The altered airway specialist nurse along with the lead nurse are responsible for managing both inpatients within the trust with altered airways as well as a caseload of patients living in the community with long term airway needs. A driving license is therefore an essential requirement for the role. Candidates need to be enthusiastic and motivated nurses with previous tracheostomy/laryngectomy experience. ENT/ Head and Neck experience is desirable. Teaching skills are essential as the altered airway team not only provide teaching to staff but also play a vital role in teaching patients and family members how to care for their altered airways at home. The successful candidate will be supported with both education and continuing professional development. The purpose of the post is to provide expert specialist clinical nursing practice for both outpatients and inpatients within the UHL and community setting. The Altered Airway Specialist Nurse will use evidence-based clinical practice in line with current research, guidelines and other available evidence. They will ensure that patients and their families are fully informed about their journey through the service. The Specialist Nurse will liaise with other members of the Multi-disciplinary Team when required, to ensure delivery of reliable high quality care About us Work autonomously, providing an effective nurse-led service as needs dictate.
