The successful applicant will have access to a comprehensive range of equipment to provide routine and specialist diagnostic studies. The successful applicant will provide a full range of nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) services and be expected to be able to undertake this on all available equipment. They will be required to report on EEG of all modalities. They will also be required to report on physiologist-led nerve conduction clinics and any other neurophysiological investigations as required. This post offers the opportunity to work closely with neurological, neurosurgical and orthopaedic consultants colleagues in providing a cross specialty comprehensive diagnostic service to in- and out-patients and also to primary care services. There will be the expectation for the successful applicant to develop a subspecialist interest in advanced neuromuscular neurophysiology and the education and development of the role of clinical physiologists in performing more advanced NCS. The successful candidate would be encouraged to develop services, existing and new, complementary to the needs of the department. There may be the opportunity to develop other sub-specialist interests subject to the needs of the department. The department holds UKAS accreditation for IQIPS (Improving Quality in Physiological Service) and the successful candidate will be required to support delivery of this. About us MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership & Governance: a.Ensures service delivery by the department is within the resources available. b.Helps manage demand and prioritises on the basis of clinical need. c.Demonstrates excellence in patient quality care. d.To cover for consultant colleagues as required during time of leave in order to maintain a good service. Interpersonal and Communication Skills: a.The post holder must be willing to join an established collaborative department which involves working closely with neurology, neurosurgical, orthopaedic and other colleagues to provide a comprehensive and cohesive service. b.Contribute to the design and implementation of neurophysiology services delivering high quality patient care. c.Have excellent report writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues. To develop and maintain effective networks within the region enabling best practice to be identified and implemented by the Trust. d.The post holder must have well-developed listening and communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers and professionals both within and outside the Trust. Planning and organising: a.Be willing to be involved with and implementation of new developments in clinical neurophysiology. b.Contribute to the discussion on the future development of clinical neurophysiology. c.Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement. d.Effectively plan, communicate and execute changes ensuring engagement and involvement. e.Support the department in achieving its financial and performance targets. f.The appointed candidate would be expected to work flexibly; this may include off-site working and a hybrid model of home and onsite working. The department is located in the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. A comprehensive service is provided to QEHB and surrounding hospitals. Techniques currently untaken include routine Evoked potentials, NCS/EMG, specialist EMG techniques including single fibre EMG, EMG guided Botulinum therapy including spastic dysphonia, pre-operative dystonia assessment, EEG, ambulatory EEG, video telemetry including invasive intra-cranial recording, MSLT, intra-operative corticography, spinal cord monitoring and epilepsy multi-disciplinary assessment.
