From 01-04-21 the Oncology services in North Cumbria joined with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) to become one service, delivering oncology out-patient appointments, radiotherapy and chemotherapy as a single NUTH provision. The radiotherapy department in Newcastle benefits from state-of-the-art equipment which includes 2 Novalis Truebeam STX linacs with stereotactic capability, 5 Varian TrueBeam linacs, and 2 Tomotherapy units. The Pre-treatment Imaging section comprises 2 Siemens CT scanners with ProSoma virtual simulation and Raystation planning system, and a dedicated MRI scanner. The provision of this MRI scanner in the department has enabled us to be at the forefront of the development of the use of MRI within radiotherapy planning and MRI only planning pathways.
