This is well supported by the regional clinical network. The appointee will be based primarily at Luton and Dunstable Hospital but with some clinical sessions at Bedford Hospital. The appointee will be encouraged and supported in developing their own specialty interests in Paediatric Surgery within the overall job plan and to improve the pathway for patients. The post brings the paediatric consultant group to 3, working cross site to support the broad catchment area for paediatrics. The Paediatric T&O team caters to a tertiary level NICU at Luton site and receives referrals from areas of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Our Paediatric wards, NICU and Paediatricians support elective and trauma operating on children 0-18 years of age. Bedfordshire has one of the highest birth rates in the UK and a growing young population. We have a multidisciplinary team of Paediatricians, Paediatric surgeons, Paediatric anaesthetists, Paediatric radiologists and a Paediatric rheumatologist working alongside therapists, orthotists and nurses specialising in treating babies and children with congenital, developmental and acquired musculoskeletal conditions. Main duties of the post are: Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all Trauma & Orthopaedic and paediatric orthopaedic patients. To share with colleagues in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Departments the management of Trauma and Orthopaedic patients requiring admission. The appointee will perform general on call and trauma commitments as well as paediatric specialist surgical management. Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD). Undertake regular fracture clinics, fracture clinics, elective theatre lists and trauma lists. Although based at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, some clinical sessions will be scheduled at Bedford Hospital, as we work together to further develop the joint working strategy of the departments across the newly merged organisation. About us Weekly work commitments will be within the Working Time Regulations on working hours and will also be influenced by the Royal College of Surgery recommendations, the Consultant contract and will be specified in the Job Plan. The Clinical Director will encourage the appointee to choose a mentor outside the department locally within an established innovative programme aimed at supporting every new Consultant member of the Trust. We wish to embrace team spirit and support and the department enjoys a very close working relationship where all clinical issues are openly discussed at formal and informal meetings. Te Paediatric T&O service is also part of North London Paediatric Orthopaedics network as well as East of England Paediatric Orthopaedics group. There are regular MDTs held at Stanmore to discuss complex cases. Elective and Trauma services are supported by established pathways between RNOH, GOSH and Addenbrookes. There are local monthly Paediatric MSK MDTs between allied therapist and clinicians. "}
