The Osteoporosis nurse specialist has the lead role in conducting research and audit within the department, In conjunction with the Matron setting clinical standards within osteoporosis nursing across the Trust and local area using evidence-based practice. They will work independently receiving direct referrals from primary and secondary practice and advice on relevant treatments for patients with osteoporosis. They will interpret results and act on them in providing advice and treatment to patients. To ensure the provision of a high-quality comprehensive Osteoporosis service to both inpatients and outpatients within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. To ensure the most effective use of resources and manpower to achieve Rheumatology departmental and Trust objectives. To support the planning and development of the service in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures. About us Undertakes and provides specialist clinical leadership, assessment of patients needs, implementation and evaluation of patients care package which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient and family. Takes direct referrals from primary and secondary care. Following patient assessment and assessment of Dexascan recommends new and changes in treatment to GP and secondary care. Provides specialist advice to GPs and medical teams within the hospital re starting and changing treatments. "}
