The North Midlands Medical Examiner Service team are looking for a Senior Medical Examiner Officer to oversee a team responsible for managing the legal processes and administrative practicalities after a patient's death. You will have the ability to balance empathy with the need to make decisions and problem solve. You will have a positive outlook, be able to motivate teams and have high levels resilience and emotional intelligence. The ideal candidate would have:- Significant experience in a patient or customer facing role Experience (or working knowledge) of current death certification systems An understanding of medical terminology to enable discussion with medical professionals, bereaved people, Coroner & Registration Service staff Strong communication skills and be comfortable working with the bereaved The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships Experience managing and leading teams The role is full time, office-based and will work cross-site to meet service needs. Participation in weekend, bank holiday and on-call rota cover will be required. The post holder will support Medical Examiners in their role of scrutinising the circumstances and causes of a patient's death. The service will strengthen safeguards for the public by providing robust, systematic and independent scrutiny of deaths not referred directly to the Coroner; improve the quality of death certification; and avoid unnecessary distress for the bereaved, by answering questions about the causes and circumstances of a death. The role involves providing supervision to a team of Medical Examiner Officers, including managing performance, training and wellbeing. The post holder will act as a senior point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals, Coroner and Registration Services. The post holder will take responsibility for managing case progression and ensuring an efficient workflow, within agreed timescales in a high pressured environment. The post holder will ensure that the service is maintained in accordance to local and national guidelines and requirements, as directed by the Ministry of Justice and Department of Health and Social Care.
