You will be joining a friendly, highly skilled team and will have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children and young people who have special needs and their families. Working as part of a team you will participate in the delivery of health care and promote the health and welfare of children attending Staffordshire Special Schools, and to acknowledge and respect the individual rights and personal dignity of the students. The team provides holistic nursing care for pupils with a wide range of learning disabilities, physical disabilities and neurological conditions. We work in partnership with Education, The Local Authority, Parents and other partners to support Children and Young People to remain healthy and reach their academic potential. The hours will be up to 37.5 hours per week, 8.30- 4.30 pm dependant on current contract, you will not be required to work term time unless this role becomes permanent. To assess care needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care. To prioritise daily care, responding to emergencies as required. To assess the needs of the school age population and promote healthy lifestyles within the Public Health Role of School Nursing. To ensure safe custody and administration of prescribed medication where required in accordance with Trust policies and NMC guidelines. To liaise appropriately and effectively with parents/carers, education staff and other agencies to achieve optimum health in school age children and young people. To demonstrate, teach and supervise aspects of care that can be delegated to support staff and education staff. To contribute to the induction of new staff to the service. Participate in the prevention, identification, and protection of children at risk in accordance with Trust Safeguarding Procedures. To facilitate and attend school medicals and undertake nurse led assessments where relevant. To provide advice to parents, pupils, and school staff on preventative measures to limit outbreaks of infectious diseases Observes own personal duty of care to equipment and resources.
