Extensive hands on experience of genomic sequencing, library preparation and quality control is essential. Use of automation equipment, and operational management of a busy diagnostic service is highly desirable. You will be reporting to the Head of Technical Programme and working together with the other Technical Managers and Team Leads to ensure the processes and assays within the wet lab are running smoothly as well as ensuring our UKAS accreditation is maintained. You will be managing a team of Senior Genetic Technologists and maintaining specialist skills in Genomic Testing, in order to troubleshoot and improve sequencing workflows in the laboratory. The Laboratory is part of the East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub. This is one of seven Genomic Hubs established to provide the National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England, led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and working with Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospital Leicester. Currently working hours are between the laboratory opening hours of 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday, however these may change to be 8am-8pm Monday - Friday and some Weekend working so flexibility is desirable. Shared responsibility for the operational aspects of the Genomic Technical Laboratory (wet lab), to ensure an efficient and timely delivered quality service whilst being responsible for specific technical sections/functions To participate in the organisation and supervision of all staff and their well-being within the genomic technical laboratory. To deputise for the Head of Technical Programme as required To practice as a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist or AHCS Registered Genetic Technologist in all technical aspects of a routine clinical laboratory About us You will have extensive experience working in a Diagnostic Genomics Laboratory, with in depth knowledge of the area to be managed including sample processing and assays used for genomic diagnosis of rare diseases and cancer, cancer prognosis, monitoring or Pharmacogenomics. You must be a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist or Genetic Technologist with the Academy for Healthcare Science (or at least actively working towards). As the lead laboratory of the East Genomic Laboratory Hub, the Cambridge Laboratory has a critical role in the delivery of genomic services to a population of over 8 million people.
