Phlebotomists are responsible for safely obtaining blood samples from adults and children to support diagnosis and ongoing treatment. This full-time (37.5 hours per week) apprenticeship is undertaken within a fourteen month fixed-term contract, and provides an ideal opportunity to begin your career in healthcare science at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will receive a Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. This will then allow you to apply for permanent AfC Band 2 roles within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. Successful applicants will work as team members across all areas of the Phlebotomy Service. There is an expectation within your training that you will participate in the rota to work weekends and bank holidays in line with Phlebotomy service provision. The role will commence in Feb 2025, and you could spend your 14 months placement at any one of our Trust sites. Candidates will be required to attend study sessions remotely and in person at Leeds City college. Candidates will need to ensure they are available to attend Leeds City college assessment dates on the 16th & 17th January 2025 and be over the age of 18 years on the date of the assessment day. Interviews will held on Saturday 1st February 2025 for that have successfully completed the assessment centre. The jobholder will be undertaking a training programme within the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (LTHT). The training will be delivered through formal education either in-house and or via external providers, and clinical placements. They will be involved in providing direct and indirect care for patients in support of and supervised by a Phlebotomist and where identified as appropriate by the Phlebotomy Supervisor. It is expected that the apprentice will commit to self-directed study and successfully complete the training programme within the contract period. About us To extract blood samples from patients/donors in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable/fit for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose. Working in hospital wards, clinics, community-based clinics within other organisations and NHS Trusts and also in patients homes. There is a requirement to work weekends, bank holidays and cover service delivery times between 08.00 and 20.00 as the roster dictates. Education and Training To participate fully in the training programme for the BTEC level 2 Diploma Healthcare Sciences (Phlebotomy apprenticeship) by: i) Attending formal study sessions ii) Participating in informal study opportunities iii) Be willing to undertake self-directed learning ii) Complete all tasks and assignments iii) Apply skills and knowledge to patient care in the clinical area iv) Contribute to regular performance and progress reviews To successfully complete the academic elements of the programme as specified by the employer and the training organisation. To achieve a minimum of Level 1 in numeracy and literacy Functional skills and apply this learning in the workplace.
