Pharmacy Technicians play an important role in complementing Pharmacists and other members of multi-disciplinary teams carrying out a range of duties as outlined in the job description. We are excited to announce that University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) has joined forces with the Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance to incorporate this training role which combines on the job training and 1 study day per week in order to achieve the following qualification: Pharmacy Technician Training Programme (Apprenticeship pathway) The above qualification is achieved over a 2-year period and successful completion will enable registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a qualified Pharmacy Technician. This is a 2-year full time fixed term contract working 37.5 hours Monday to Friday including participation in weekend working, bank holiday working, and late nights. Apprenticeship funding rules apply. The ideal candidate will be flexible, methodical and decisive with excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others. To gain experience of the technical work carried out by Pharmacy Technicians within both hospital and primary care settings across University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire and the Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance. This will include completing rotations in areas such as dispensary and stores for the management and supply of pharmaceuticals; goods receipt (receiving stock) clinical trials, medicines information, Medicines Management (interaction with patients and supply of medication at ward level) and working as part of the MDT in a GP practice within a Primary Care Network. Successful completion of the two-year training course will enable achievement of the Pharmacy Technician Training Programme - Apprenticeship pathway and ultimately lead to professional registration with the GPhC. About us Take in prescriptions, verifying the patients identity and the validity of the prescription, clarifying any other details and putting forward for processing. Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making conversations with patients enabling them to comply safely with their medication as prescribed and referring to a more senior member of the team when necessary. Dispensing medicines correctly in line with local policies; this may include some hazardous substances, special storage and heavy or bulky items in addition to clinical trials dispensing, according to written or printed prescriptions. Keep complete and accurate records of dispensing Participating in accuracy checking activities of prescribed medicines and products in line with local policies and dealing with errors or near misses Receiving medication from a number of suppliers and processing this safely and accurately to assist in the process of supplying medication to patients in a timely manner. Dealing with queries from a variety of healthcare professions and patients, face to face and remotely. Undertake any other duties as required by the Director of Pharmacy in accordance with the grade and nature of the post. Supplying stock medication to wards, departments or external organisations. To be responsible for topping up individual ward(s) which includes supplying stock, communicating with the ward staff and assisting with queries regarding the automated medicines cabinets (Omnicell) to maintain appropriate stock levels.
