The team aims to bring a CAMHS perspective to improving emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn of Looked after Children. The team is designed to be flexible and as responsive as possible in the work undertaken with networks surrounding children and young people - identifying potential barriers to education, in relation to emotional well being and facilitating strategies to manage these. The HOP service, overseen by the virtual school, is a service dedicated to ensuring pupils have their access to education preserved as much as possible within the context of their presenting illness, while they are unable to attend mainstream education because of their health needs. There is a strong focus on collaboration with schools and reintegration into education. The VS CAMHS team determines eligibility for the service when the presenting difficulty is mental health related and provides assessment when information is not sufficient to determine this. The team offers further collaborative and therapeutic support to facilitate this process and in some instances direct therapeutic intervention is delivered. Increase the awareness and early identification of mental health difficulties in looked after children and young people in education Work collaboratively with Lewisham Virtual school to bring a CAMHS perspective to improving emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn of Looked after Children Facilitate early direct interventions where there are difficulties with education (e.g. assessment, formulation, brief therapeutic interventions with the young person and/or foster carer/parent) Enable networks to positively support Looked after Children experiencing these difficulties by providing them with appropriate strategies and skills Work collaboratively with the network to understand and attend to young people’s wellbeing in relation to their wider school environment. To offer CAMHS expertise to the wider professional network including teachers, SENCOs and other professionals within the school system. To screen and triage HOP referrals and asses clinical need where indicated (together with the other members of the VS CAMHS team). To provide occasional therapeutic input to HOP pupils where this has not been possible to access within their time within the program.
