Applicants should be child centred with the ability to manage challenging and stressful situations, demonstrate empathy for the concern of others and adapt easily to changes at work. A knowledge of Residential Child Care tasks is essential, as is the ability to work using your own initiative, communicate effectively with both young people and adults, and have the capacity to write reports and represent the department at hearing. It is essential that you hold or have the capacity to achieve a SVQ 3 in Care and a HNC in Social Care or equivalent or qualification at or above SCQF level 7 that includes social policy, sociology and psychology. Qualifications at level 8 (SCQF) or above, approved for this grade of post by the SSSC are also acceptable. An understanding of the needs and difficulties of young people is essential as is the ability to work shifts and you must be registered with the SSSC or willing to achieve registration within 6 months of taking up post. If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
