An opportunity has arisen to join the team on the Haematology Day Unit team to develop skills in this specialist area whilst using your nursing skills caring for patients with long term chronic conditions. The care will be planned scheduled treatments and acute emergency management for patients using the drop in facility. The day unit provides a high quality ambulatory service for Clinical Haematology patients with Haemophilia, Haemoglobinopathies, Thrombosis, Anticoagulation MDS, ITP and other general haematology conditions. We also have an apheresis service which we started in June 2016. Full time 37.5 hrs per week Monday to Friday 9am until 5 pm We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our small friendly team, in return you will be well supported by the Haematology Consultants, Specialist Registrars, and Ward based Registrar and Clinical Nurse Specialists in the various specialties. The Day Unit is evolving and developing its service, as part of the team, you will need to embrace the concept of change and development. You will be working as part of the multi-disciplinary team and must have good communication and organisational skills in order to provide safe and efficient delivery of care to this patient group. This post offers an important role in the management of people with chronic and genetic non malignant haematology conditions requiring day unit care within Barts Health Clinical Haematology service. We aim to provide a first class and a safe level of care to patients and their relatives, whilst ensuring that the patient pathway is recorded and monitored throughout treatment. About us To understand fully clinical haematological conditions including; sickle cell and thalassaemia, haemophilia, clotting disorders, ITP and iron deficiency anaemia. Care for patients needs, who have such chronic conditions and pursue and learn to achieve greater understanding Participate in the management of haemoglobinopathy patients using Automated Exchange Transfusion. Become proficient in the provision of the Apheresis service. To administer daily, routine blood transfusions, automated exchange transfusions, iron infusions venesections and other treatments prescribed by the specialist Consultants to regular day attenders With the specialist team and the day unit team manage the care of patients attending the haematology Day Unit in painful crisis or are acutely unwell and liaise with acute and emergency services, To plan and liaise with the Ward Manager and MDT to ensure efficient and responsible use of resources To understand the need for vigilance and adherence to Trust and national policies regarding blood products, Haemoglobinopathies and other clinical haematology conditions To administer medication as directed and recognise the signs of patient distress and deterioration and escalate appropriately. Responsibility to provide a safe level of care for all the patients seen in the clinical haematology services at Barts Health To act as an example and mentor for colleagues and students Work with the ward manager and staff members to improve and develop the service delivery on the unit Participate in audits and research to improve care and service on the Haematology Day Unit.
