Ward L23 is a busy, ENT, Maxillofacial and Spinal surgery ward. It is fast paced with a high turnover of admissions and discharges. We are also a specialist unit caring for patients having complex surgery for Head and Neck Cancer Our Ward Clerk is often the first-person visitors to the ward will see, so a positive, friendly, welcoming disposition is essential. You should have excellent communication skills, enjoy meeting a wide variety of people and have the ability to handle a variety of tasks including, data inputting, checking, and ordering ward stock, general clerical duties and organising patient transport. You will be required to use and update PAS and PPM systems, maintain the ward register, take phone calls and messages from either member of staff, other departments or relatives, arranging transport for patients been discharged, transferred or leaving the ward for appointments while they are an inpatient. You will also book follow up appointments for discharged patients. Other administration duties include documenting any admission discharge or transfers, ensuring there is adequate stock for the ward, ordering equipment that may be needed, reporting any faults that occur on the ward. It will also involve assisting the nurse in charge in a multitude of administrative tasks to ensure the continuous smooth running of the Ward. The post-holder will be expected to work various shift patterns, including unsocial hours, covering weekends and evenings on opposite shifts to another Ward Clerk About us - Record admission, transfer, and discharge activity data onto the Trust PAS system. - Arrange patients follow-up appointments using the PAS system and order transport for patients when required. - Record changes to the bed base and inform the relevant corporate team. - Handle telephone calls from relatives, hospital staff, public etc, under guidance where necessary from the sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of ward staff. - Ensure that patients medical records (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these where necessary from other departments. - Transfer pathology and other reports to patients records, and general collation of records promptly and efficiently, especially on patients discharge. - Order stationary and complete requisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse. - Complete electronic admission/bed system as required.
