Healthcare Science Assistant (Higher Level) with NHS Scotland in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. This is a permanent, part-time post of 18.5 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Friday (11am-3pm). Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours. An opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Science Assistant (Higher Level), Band 3 to join Laboratory Genetics, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The laboratory provides a high quality diagnostic genetics service to the West of Scotland, population 2.7 million, and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine. Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the department is responsible for the testing of both inherited and acquired genetic disease (solid and haematological malignancy). You will join our team of >130 scientific and technical staff. You will work as part of the specimen reception team and will be responsible for the receipting and processing of patient specimens in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and for the provision of technical support to the scientific staff of the Laboratory Genetics department. You will perform basic laboratory tasks for a set of routine laboratory procedures, to ensure that the laboratory’s genetic tests are processed, and results are reported within contracted times. You should have secondary education to higher level, an ONC or equivalent relevant experience. Previous relevant laboratory experience is essential.
