Clinical Trainer - Mammography with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts in Nottingham
An exciting opportunity has opened for a radiographer(s) with a UK recognised mammography qualification to join our friendly clinical training team, and the wider multi-disciplinary team at Nottingham. You will have current mammography experience and hold Health Care Professions Council registration. A full UK driving license and use of a vehicle isessential. The Nottingham International Breast Education Centre (NIBEC) is one of the leading training centres in the United Kingdom, with over 60% of UK professionals involved in screening and symptomatic breast services having attended courses here. You will be responsible for delivering high quality practical mammography training, for preparing, delivering, and assessing academic course components and for maintaining the exceptional reputation of NIBEC. We deliver a range of post-graduate modules, and study days. You will undertake mammographic imaging at a high standard, inclusive of advanced image techniques and will train a range of individuals alongside breast screening and symptomatic clinical duties at the Nottingham Breast Institute and our other static and mobile sites. Patient care is at the heart of everything we do. Mammography posts have a gendered protected character, due to the nature of the work. Practical mammography training of Radiographers and Assistant/Associate Practitioners from the UK and overseas. Appraisal of trainee Mammographers' clinical work, both on site and at the student's base. Contribute to the preparation and delivery of courses in Mammography at NIBEC. Contribute to the theoretical assessment of students attending courses at NIBEC. Teach and mentor assistant/associate practitioners and junior radiography staff, and advise the Radiology Service Manager and Training & Education Manager on training requirements to ensure that mammography standards are maintained. Actively promote the culture of life-long learning within the department. Mammography examinations on symptomatic and asymptomatic patients at both static and mobile sites, to a high standard. Specialised mammography techniques including stereotactic localisation at screening and symptomatic assessment clinics, digital breast tomosynthesis, and contrast enhanced spectral mammography. Plan and prioritise own workload in order to maintain service and clinic workflow, alongside practical mammography training. Provide a high standard of patient care and communication. About us KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Training and Education Practical mammography training of Radiographers and Assistant/Associate Practitioners from the UK and overseas. Appraisal of trainee mammographers clinical work, both on site and at the students base. Balance clinical needs of the department with practical mammography training. Contribute to the preparation and delivery of various courses in mammography. Contribute to the theoretical assessment of students attending courses at NIBEC. Teach and mentor Assistant/Associate practitioners and junior radiography staff and advise the Radiology Service Manager on training requirements to ensure that mammography standards are maintained. Actively promote the culture of life-long learning within the department. Supervision of visitors to the department. Mammography Provision Mammography examinations on symptomatic and asymptomatic patients at both static and mobile sites. Specialised mammography techniques including stereotactic localisation at screening and symptomatic assessment clinics, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, and Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography. To consistently carry out mammography examinations to a standard which meets the NHSBSP Quality Assurance Guidelines for Mammography. Analyse the quality of own and others mammograms on a day-to-day basis and make appropriate adjustments or actions. Plan and prioritise own workload in order to maintain service and clinic workflow alongside practical mammography training. Use of direct digital mammography equipment. To adhere to Breast Service Clinical Protocols and Guidelines and Local Rules of Practice with particular regard to IR(ME)R. To be a fully participating member of the multi-disciplinary breast team including attending multi-disciplinary team meetings when required. To participate in peer review activities to measure, monitor and maintain high mammography standards. Other duties as required to maintain the mammography service to a high standard of delivery. Supervisory and Support Duties To supervise, and support Radiographic Aides in their role. To supervise, and support Assistant/Associate Practitioners in their role, particularly when undertaking mammography examinations and quality assurance activities. To support Assistant/Associate Practitioners and others to maintain service and clinic workflow. To supervise and support newly qualified staff and radiographers undergoing training in the Postgraduate Award in Mammography. To assist and train junior staff in own subject. To provide theoretical and practical training and support to the Assistant/Associate workforce in continuing professional development activities. To provide advice and support to visiting students and other health professionals. Providing support to radiologists and advanced practitioners during clinical and radiographic procedures. To assist in daily department management. Patient/Client Care /Communication Provide a high standard of patient care and communication. Be aware of individual client and patient needs and demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in sometimes highly emotive situations. Communicate effectively across a wide range of health care professions. Communicate effectively with clients and patients from different backgrounds, or who may have challenging behaviours, learning or physical disabilities or who have just received bad news.
