Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (Ophthalmology - PCEU Windsor) This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) of 5% of gross basic salary. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Prince Charles Eye Unit (Windsor) for an ophthalmic nurse to learn and develop enhanced skills such as intravitreal injections (AMD & DMO), pre-operative assessment, and emergency eye care, to help meet the demands of the service and needs of the patients. The successful candidate will be part of a large and supportive team, working with the different ophthalmology sub-specialties. You should be an enthusiastic and committed professional, with the passion and drive to provide the highest quality ophthalmic care to our patients. We work closely with all our ophthalmology teams and all health care professionals. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nurse who is dynamic, friendly and who strives to provide an excellent standard of care. The successful candidate will be a supervisor to junior staff and support the department manager with the day-to-day running of the clinical activity. You will assist with the delivery of the ophthalmic services at Prince Charles Eye Unit. The post holder will facilitate the provision of excellent nursing care and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. Be a role model and demonstrate leadership competencies, engaging with research and evidence-based practice. To support pre-operative assessment, developing essential skills such as undertake biometry measurements and demonstrate knowledge relating with various ophthalmic procedures to support both service and patient needs. The post holder will develop key competencies to support emergency eye care, such as nursing assessment and triage of urgent patients, including history taking details. Undertake training according with local policies and procedures to support intravitreal injections (AMD & DMO), and work autonomously where appropriated. About us The post holder will support ophthalmology patients in a seamless journey through the sub-specialty pathways. Educate the patient on the management and control of symptoms and offering support following diagnosis, being a resource for other health professionals; Demonstrate ophthalmic specialist skill and professional knowledge acquired through post-registration academic, clinical, leadership and management development. Work as an excellent role model for professional practice. Demonstrate a proactive attitude to undertake training in essential ophthalmic skills such as biometry, intravitreal injections and/or Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA). As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, ensure appropriate referral and communication with other members of the team to optimise patient care. Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with Trusts and National evidence-based procedural documents. Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area. In the absence of the department manager, be responsible for ensuring that all patients in the caseload receive safe, competent nursing care. Manage the caseload for which he/she is responsible, working flexibly to support other/more junior colleagues on a day-to-day basis. Encourage others to review their goals and achievements on a regular basis and to maintain a personal development plan (PDP), providing orientation and mentoring. To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service - all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate RBFTs CARE values .
