Specialist Podiatrist with Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust in Milton Keynes
We are looking for an experienced Podiatrist to support the Milton Keynes Podiatry team to develop, deliver high-quality patient care and improve patient outcomes. As a Specialist Podiatrist you will work across Community and Hospital setting the assist with the management of all Podiatry patients - moderate to high-risk. This includes supporting the high risk case load from both hospital and community referrals as we manage increasingly complex patients. The post holder will also contribute to service development, research and ongoing review of service delivery. You will be supported throughout your employment with CPD opportunities, study days, regular supervision and friendly, supportive colleagues. To assess, diagnose and implement tailored treatment and specialist care plans (e.g. ulcer management) using a variety of appropriate treatment options for a range of patient groups To apply and practice principles of wound management using wound classification systems (SINBAD). To have knowledge of biomechanics and its role in wound care To support the management of referrals To ensure effective verbal and written communication To take an active role in planning and delivering health promotion events To maintain accurate record keeping To continually review patient's progress and refer as necessary To participate in departmental clinical governance initiatives and development and implantation of standard, procedural guidelines and protocols. About us To assess, diagnose and implement tailored treatment and specialist care plans (e.g. ulcer management) using a variety of appropriate treatment options for a range of patient groups To apply and practice principles of wound management using wound classification systems (SINBAD). To have knowledge of biomechanics and its role in wound care including the practical use of pressure relieving devices in the treatment of complex diabetes foot problems e.g. Air cast walkers, slipper cast, surgical footwear and total contact casting. To support the management of hospital referrals from consultants / doctors, nurses and accident and emergency based on agreed criteria and ensuring patients at not put at risk. To ensure effective verbal and written communication in providing general and specialist foot health advice and education to service users according to their risk status and foot care needs. To take an active role in planning and delivering health promotion and training events within the service and trust including promoting the departments services to other healthcare professions to ensure appropriate patients are referred to the service. To maintain accurate record keeping in accordance with department, professional and Trusts procedure. To evaluate and assess patients against the podiatry assessment matrix, and review treatment outcomes ensuring that only patients who meet the podiatry service eligibility criteria are offered a care package and to discharge patients once care is completed. To continually review patients progress and refer as necessary to other health care professionals and podiatry clinical specialist leads to ensure appropriate care is provided. To participate in departmental clinical governance initiatives and development and implantation of standard, procedural guidelines and protocols. To work in close liaison with all members of the Podiatry team as well as members of other disciplines, therefore ensuring patient treatment continuity. To ensure effective communication with other organisations e.g. MK Council, Social Services, Interpreting Services, Community Transport, Residential and Nursing Homes to guarantee the best possible care for the patients. To be flexible and provide cover for other podiatrists at short notice or during periods of absence.
