At West Suffolk Hospital we are committed to ensuring that the mental health needs of patients are understood and supported when receiving care within our services. We recognise that in order to enable staff to provide care for people who have additional complex mental health needs there is a need to enhance the specialism within our services to include additional mental health professionals within our workforce. We are very excited to be able to advertise a Band 7 post for a mental health professional who has experience of working with children and young people.The post holder will work alongside the Head of Mental Health, safeguarding team and children's teams across West Suffolk Hospital , including outpatient areas to build a provision which has a positive impact on the health outcomes of children and young people. A pivotal aspect of this post will be direct interventions with young people who have been admitted to West Suffolk Hospital and require support for their mental health alongside physical health needs. There will be a requirement for the successful applicant to build relationships both with internal and external teams in order to develop effective and therapeutic pathways of care which are mindful of the impact of different factors for all children's mental health and wellbeing. To provide clinical leadership and training on the delivery of care for children and young people in West Suffolk Hospital who have mental health needs. To provide training and support that will improve the experience of these patients and those who are involved in their care. To be responsible for developing care packages and programs of care for young people who have complex mental health needs including self-harm or have an eating disorder, including the involvement of multi-agency input around the child or young person and their family's needs. To communicate complex and sensitive information and advice to child or young person and their families, carers and professionals, including information about diagnosis and prognosis, to find ways of enabling the information to be understood, providing empathy and reassurance. To review children and young people presenting in the Emergency Department (ED) or ambulatory areas with mental health associated needs who have been assessed by the Psychiatric Liaison team and require an inpatient bed; to ensure appropriate risk assessments are completed and communicated. To ensure that the children and young people receive safe and effective care whilst under the care of WSH, have an inpatient plan of care, risk assessment and discharge care plan.
