Nurse Associate - Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in Hazel Grove

We are looking for a Registered Nursing Associate to join our friendly Neonatal nursing team. We have 17 cots (2 ITU, 3 HDU & 12 SC cots) providing care for neonates from 27 weeks gestation. We have close links and are part of the wider North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. We also link in with local tertiary units to gain further valuable expertise. We are proud to have achieved FiCare Accreditation and uphold this standard within the care that we give to all our families. We work in collaboration with the Maternity Unit and the Paediatric Ward enabling the services to align, and thus providing a strong supportive environment to all staff and patients. We provide specialist training, including opportunities to attend the NWNODN Foundation in Neonates programme in the first 12 months and to undergo the Qualified in Speciality Neonatal Intensive Care course. A Trust Preceptorship Programme is also provided. We have an enthusiastic, experienced Neonatal Educator based on the unit to support your learning and on going development including in house study days. This ensures valuable support for both nursing staff , pre registration students and cadets. This post requires flexibility as the unit operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The service provides Transitional Care, Special care, High Dependency and Intensive care to Neonates. The role of the Nursing Associate is to work predominantly with the team of Registered Nurses, Medics and AHPs, contributing to the ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of babies and their families in line with the service and as agreed. They will monitor the condition and health needs of children within their care on a continual basis in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team. The nurse associate will ensure effective communication is always maintained whilst providing support for junior staff and support workers on the team. The Nursing Associate has a breadth of knowledge and will provide holistic, family centred and person-centred care to the children and their families. They will help to bridge the gap between Health Care Assistants and Registered Nurses by working independently under the leadership of Registered Nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process. Nursing Associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment; and will act in accordance with the NMC Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associates. Responsibility for Patient Care Responsibility for Patient Care Under supervision and working in partnership with a registered nurse provide contribution to the ongoing assessment of the individual's care needs, developing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care to meet needs of patients and undertake all forms of care within respite. Working in partnership with relatives and carers to develop and implement /improve standards of patient care. Liaising with qualified staff to deliver evidence and work in partnership with multi-agencies in relation to patient care. Maintain accurate and timEly patients records and documentation ensuring confidentiality. Act in accordance with all organisational policies and procedures and within expected values and behaviours Ensure that the nursing care provided is consistent with clinical guidelines. Provide effective evidence-based care and use professional judgement to analyse a range of patient conditions under the supervision of registered nurses in order to perform non-complex activities, in line with clinical governance and professional standards to act appropriately. Act as a professional role model and in accordance with the NMC Code and the NMC Standards for Nursing Associates. Promote the safeguarding of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy. Planning and organising Prioritise and manage own workload, recognising where elements of care can safely be delegated to other colleagues, carers and family members. Organise and plan own day to day workload or activities in order to meet the demands of the job role Actively contribute and participate in the Trusts clinical governance agenda. Responsibilities for Physical and / or Financial Resources Ensure safe and efficient use of equipment, resources and consumables at all times, including ensuring equipment is clean and serviced as appropriate Participate in ensuring appropriate usage and monitoring of departmental resources. Develop a good understanding of the financial management of the service, cost implications of poor use of resources and poor staff rostering. Responsibilities for Human Resources and Leadership To plan, organise and supervise staff according to competencies and workload. To assess clinical competencies and provide training/education and support as necessary to staff. Raising awareness of and promoting implementation of Trust and Department Policies. Contributing appropriately to their developments as required. Participate in induction of new staff including bank and agency staff to adapt to the workplace. Act as mentor/preceptor to new staff. Participate in development reviews. Maintain continued professional development. Maintain own continuing professional development in accordance with NMC CPD requirements and contribute to formulation of own objectives and personal development plan Responsibilities for Teaching and Training To participate in the education of personal within the multidisciplinary team to the specific regard to the roles and responsibilities of the neonatal service. The facilitation of mentorship for placements of students within the team. Provide parents/carers with knowledge, information and training to facilitate empowerment in relation to the care of the baby. To participate in a personal development program identified following individual performance review. To maintain high standards in all aspects of professional practice at all times to keep up to date with professional developments by attendance and study days and in service training days and educational courses as necessary. Provision of impromptu opportunistic training for members of the MDT. Responsibilities for data and information resources To participate in the Information Management and Technology (IM&T) Strategy of the Trust and ensure handwritten and electronic patient records are maintained for all aspects of patient care. Research, Development and Audit To assist in research, development and audit. Demonstrates ability to use current research finding to develop practice and is able to critically evaluate current practice. Physical Skills and Effort To safely use clinical equipment in order to carry out the job role.
