We are now recruiting a speech and language therapist to join our neurosciences and stroke teams based in the brand new, purpose built Louisa Martindale Building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.This is an exciting opportunity has emerged for speech and language therapists wishing to further their career in adult neurosciences and stroke inpatient services and will suit experienced therapists who particularly wish to develop their assessment and management of swallowing and communication difficulties in this environment. As such you must have basic dysphagia competencies and good experience in an acute setting. We are a well established team working in the exciting environment of a teaching hospital with regional specialties. You will have excellent opportunities to participate in a wide variety of continuing professional development activities and to develop skills and in advanced dysphagia, videofluoroscopy and FEES.As part of the development of stroke services in this Trust you will also be invited to be a part of a Saturday working rota with other band 6 therapists in the team, under the lead speech and language therapist for stroke. Therefore, some experience in stroke is desirable however training and support is provided. 1. Assessment and management of dysphagia in the specialist caseload.2. Assessment and management of acquired communication disorders in the specialist caselaod.3. Mental capacity assessments for patients with acquired communication difficulties where required.4. Attendance at and training in VFSS and FEES.5. Service development and governance activities eg clinical audit.6. Teaching, training and mentoring of junior SaLTs, other staff and students. About us 1. Independently assess and diagnose a range of swallowing and communication disorders in the specialist caseload. 2. Independently carry our mental capacity assessments and support decision making for people with acquired cognitive or linguistic disorders.3. Independently carry out therapy, treatment programmes and dispense specialist advice in the clinical area.4. Be fully involved in both VFSS and FEES.5. Carry our a range of service development and governance activities.6. Deliver teaching, training and mentoring to a variety of other clinicians, students and carers.
