Consultant Radiologist subspecialty interest in Gynaecological Imaging with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust in Plymouth
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant General Radiologist with subspecialty interest in gynaecological imaging to join the existing team of 50 radiologists at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Additional subspecialty interests are also welcomed. This is an additional post which will be based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPNT), primarily Derriford Hospital, commencing at a time of significant and exciting developments within the trust. Derriford Hospital is a major trauma centre, and most of the regional specialist units are located in this hospital, including renal transplant, complex urology, andrology, hepatobiliary surgery, hepatology, paediatrics, cardiothoracics and neurosurgery. The trust has received central funding as part of the Future Hospitals Programme (FHP) to redevelop the site. Central funding has also been secured for the development of a fully NHS owned and operated Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) with 2 CT, 2 MR, 2 plain film and 4 ultrasound suites providing diagnostic services in the centre of Plymouth. This is also due to open in December 2025 and will provide dedicated consultant office and reporting space in a purpose-built city-centre environment. Gynaecological Imaging is a growing area of specialist service delivery in Plymouth and the Southwest region. Our team offer multi-modality diagnostic services to patients in the UHP catchment area, and imaging support to the West Peninsula Gynaecological Cancer Service, which serves a population of approximately 900,000 in Cornwall and Plymouth. We support a weekly gynaecological cancer MDT in conjunction with the Royal Cornwall Hospital. We are an accredited endometriosis centre and provide tubal assessment to the UHP fertility service. About us The post is designed to share responsibility for provision of a comprehensive gynaecological imaging service including MDT provision, ultrasound, MRI, specialist vetting and fertility imaging review (HSG and HyCoSy). The successful candidate will work alongside the existing 3 consultants currently supporting the service. All radiology consultants are actively involved in teaching for the Peninsula Radiology Training Programme. Opportunities exist for teaching with Peninsula Medical School. The successful applicant will share an office with other consultant colleagues and will share a secretary with the current team of radiologists. The post-holder will be provided with a PC and PACS workstation, with the option to locate one of these off-site to facilitate home working. The post holder will be required to comply with all Trust Policies notably in relation to job planning, appraisal and leave taking in line with Departmental and Trust objectives. The programs shown are for illustrative purposes and could be subject to modification, in agreement with the post holder and the Imaging Service Line Clinical Director. The post holder will be expected to share the oncall commitment equally with the existing consultants. There is also an expectation that successful candidates will participate in 7-day-working, in a pattern which supports the provision of general inpatient services across 7 days. The Directorate would support any research interests of the Consultant in conjunction with the Trust lead for R & D. All consultants are expected to actively participate in the departments audit and clinical governance program.
