Band 5 BMS / Band 6 Specialist BMS with Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in Romford
We have an 18 month fixed term Band 5 BMS / Band 6 Specialist BMS vacancy within the Histology department based at Queen's Hospital, Romford. The department operates Monday to Saturday. As an existing Band 6 Specialist BMS you must be HCPC registered and have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology (equivalence- 8 years recent experience working as a BMS in Histology) . Band 5 post you must be HCPC registered. You must be currently working in a routine histology laboratory and be competent in microtomy and embedding as a minimum. You should be friendly, professional and pro-active, self motivating, innovative and be able to demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written), organisation and manual dexterity skills. You need to demonstrate a patient focused approach to work and detail how you are committed to continual improvement of self and the service.This is not a post for a newly qualified graduate with an IBMS degree, but no routine laboratory experience or for candidates working in multi-disciplinary laboratories. The successful candidate will work across the full range of services provided by a histology service including dissection, microtomy, cryotomy, special stains, IHC and molecular dependent upon banding. High quality work is essential. This post is based at Queens Hospital, but all staff must be prepared to work at King George Hospital if required. Band 5 Salary: £34,521 to £41,956pa Inclusive of HCA The post holder will perform the scientific investigations required in the Department of Histology under the direction of the senior Biomedical Scientists. Delegated duties may include supervision of trainees, an involvement in training, quality and or health and safety.The purpose of the role is to support the diagnostic service provided by the department to the trust.
