Read on to learn more about this rewarding role and submit your application The Clinical Coding service is a part of the GP surgery and is responsible for extracting and codifying complex clinical information that describes a patient's diagnostic and procedural healthcare status within an episode of care in a timely manner. The ability to accurate record and codify its clinical activity is fundamental to understanding the quality of its clinical services. Our coded data is used by all parts of the Group's business to deliver trusted and high-quality services to patients. Clinical Coders are a core component of the Clinical Coding service and have a crucial supporting role in the overall management of the Group as their output directly influences income through the NHS Payment Scheme. As a Clinical Coder you will be responsible for codifying in a timely manner complex clinical activity according to all relevant National Clinical Coding Standards and Local Clinical Coding Policies. You will assist the Clinical Coding Team Leads to support and mentor Associate Clinical Coders and to achieve the submission of codified data in a timely manner. Extract, analyze and codify complex clinical information describing a patients diagnostic and procedural healthcare status within an episode of care . Ensure codified data is of high quality and accurate i.e., in line with all relevant National Clinical Coding Standards and Local Clinical Coding Policies. Ensure codified data is entered into the Patient Administration System (PAS) in a timely manner i.e., within defined local and national timescales. Where required work with other disciplines of staff who are necessary to the successful completion of accurate clinical coding i.e., clinicians and Senior Managers, providing and receiving complex information using persuasive skills as required. Communicate complex coding rules to a range of staff involved in the coding process; medical, clinical and administrative staff, Senior Managers and external agencies, e.g. Coroners Office as appropriate. Validate missing patient information; contact clinicians and clerical staff as appropriate to locate clinical records and missing patient information. About us 1. Timely and Accurate Clinical Coding Codify complex clinical data promptly, adhering to National Clinical Coding Standards and Local Clinical Coding Policies . Extract, analyze, and codify detailed clinical information related to a patient's diagnostic and procedural status within their episode of care. 2. Data Quality and Compliance Ensure that all codified data is of high quality and accurate , fully compliant with relevant standards and policies. Enter codified data into the Patient Administration System (PAS) accurately and within the required local and national timescales . 3. Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams Work with clinicians, senior managers , and other relevant staff to obtain accurate clinical information. Provide and receive complex information from a range of stakeholders, using persuasive communication skills as needed to ensure successful coding outcomes. Communicate complex coding rules to medical, clinical, and administrative staff, as well as external agencies (e.g., Coroners Office), as appropriate. 4. Supporting and Mentoring Junior Coders Assist Clinical Coding Team Leads in supporting and mentoring Associate Clinical Coders to ensure the timely and accurate submission of coded data. Contribute to the development of coding processes and the improvement of team performance. 5. Missing or Incomplete Data Resolution Validate missing or incomplete patient information and work with clinicians and clerical staff to retrieve clinical records and other necessary data. Ensure that all patient information is accurately recorded and entered into the system, reducing delays and improving data integrity. 6. Operational Support and Process Improvement Actively support the organizations transformation and cost-improvement initiatives that use coded data to drive financial gains and enhance operational efficiency. Critically examine existing practices within the department to identify opportunities for cost improvements and support the implementation of action plans .
