The infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse Specialist is a highly specialised clinician acting as an autonomous practitioner, whose role is to support Providers in delivering an effective infection prevention and control service to the Care Homes in Ealing. The post holder will work with Ealing CCG to provide guidance and advice to the Providers and will support them in delivering strategic and evidence based care on all matters relating to infection prevention and control, including the planning, development and implementation of strategies to prevent avoidable healthcare associated infections.They will work with Providers to ensure that the care homes have systems that provide surveillance of healthcare associated infections and provide advice to staff regarding resident's management and screening in accordance with national guidelines.The nurse will be expected to work and support Providers in ensuring that policies are accessible, evidence based, regularly reviewed and ensuring adherence with these policies across the organisations through supporting via an education programme. To support the CCG and Providers in the management of outbreaks, working with key partners.To participate in cross boundary working issues relating to IPC and outbreaks of infection eg London Borough of Ealing.To provide specialist advice to all staff relating to infection prevention and control regarding patients, staff and visitors.Provide expert clinical advice to GPs and others (eg Community Nurses) relating to IPC as requested and with a particular view to reducing hospital admissions.To support providers in the development and implementation of robust systems to provide health care associated infection statistical data for mandatory reporting.Advise staff in the development of strategies to contain and reduce the incidence of infection through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, education and management of outbreaks of communicable disease.Assist the providers in their planning and implementation of response to a major outbreak of infectious disease e.g. Pandemic flu.Organise own specialist workload. To assist in the delivery of IPC training / workshops programme for the Providers and key stakeholder's as agreed.To ensure an ongoing programme of education and support to IPC link practitioners.To maintain personal development within your role so that advice and information is based on accurate research based knowledge and best evidence.
