                                                    Clinical Fellow in Oculoplastics (Ophthalmology) with Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust  in Liverpool

                                                     The Ophthalmology Directorate wishes to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery. The appointment is for12 months beginning August 2025. The post holder will work at Liverpool University Hospital and the majority of the sessions will be based within the Aintree University Hospital, Elective Care Centre. Duties include out-patient clinics and theatre sessions with the two oculoplastic consultants (see timetable). The Clinical Fellow will also assist with the care of any oculoplastic in-patient, and have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the regional Maxillofacial Unit and the Walton Centre for Neurosciences in the management of joint complex cases.   The post holder would ideally have completed general ophthalmic training and obtained FRCOphth or equivalent. Prior experience of oculoplastics is highly desirable. The post is expected to attract candidates who have completed their general ophthalmic training and at present is not recognised for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.   The post holder will primarily work with Consultant Ophthalmologists Mr A McCormick and Mr Z Sultan.   About us  Clinical workload    The Ophthalmic Department provides a comprehensive oculoplastic service for its catchment area of Sefton, Liverpool and Knowsley. In addition we provide a tertiary service for Merseyside and other regions for the management of complex cases. We see a wide range of oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal conditions and have a high demand for our services. We have good links with related specialties including maxillo-facial surgery, neurosurgery, ENT and dermatology, and operate when necessary with colleagues from these specialties, particularly in complex head and neck cancer patients.       There is a weekly postgraduate educational session attended by doctors working in Ophthalmology throughout Mersey. All units make an active contribution. This occurs on a Wednesday afternoon when no clinical activity takes place. There is also a locally run bi-weekly oculoplastic teaching session.     All medical staff are expected to participate in medical audit as agreed by the University Hospitals audit committee and you would be expected to play a leading role in encouraging appropriate audit and implementing the lessons learned.
