We are recruiting a Nursing Associate to work within the elective admissions team in neurosciences. The successful candidate will organise patient admission prior to their surgery and prepare them for surgery on the day of admission. The Neuroscience service at King's serves a population of 3.8 million and has an international reputation for providing a wide range of expert clinical services for both regional and local patients. Our neuroscience service is continually evolving and offers new and exciting career options for our multidisciplinary teams. The post holder will be working on Murray Falconer ward and the Neurosciences Admission Lounge. We are an elective neurosurgical ward with 31 beds. Main duties include: preparing patients for theatre on the day of admission and resolving any unforeseen issues in a timely manner, providing nursing care post-operatively in accordance with the Nursing Associate Competency Requirements. The Nursing associate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to help meet the changing health and care needs of patients and the public. A dynamic person who is willing to learn and adaptable to change would be suitable for this post. The nursing associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process. This post is for full time (37.5 hr), shifts start at 7:30 am due to theatre start time but the length of the work day could be negotiated. About us To ensure that all patients have been contacted before admission and they fit the criteria On the day of admission, all pre-op checks and any outstanding tests are completed in a timely manner to avoid delays for surgery On the day of admission, liaise with theatre staff to confirm theatre list and discuss any changes To communicate effectively with the nurses, bed managers and bed flow matron To follow the infection control guidance for elective pathway To be aware of the elective pathway admission criteria To deliver high quality, evidence-based and patient focused clinical care To work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider MDT To uphold a duty of care and clinical governance To maintain own and others knowledge of clinical excellence To maintain the professional registration with the NMC and work within the NMC code of conduct and NMC Proficiencies for nursing associates
