Assist the Back Care Advisors to reduce the incidence of muscular skeletal injury in specific areas of the Trust through supporting a bespoke programme of training, assessment, education and support. Use professional experience and subject knowledge to advise clinical staff in appropriate manual handling techniques for the speciality, acknowledging limitations and seeking support from the Back Care Advisors as required . Provide advice under guidance to departmental and clinical staff in manual handling situations through planned meetings or within local training sessions. In clinical areas this involves discussions with clinical staff, advising on generic patient assessment and the implementation of manual handling care plans. Keep abreast of clinical developments and research that will have implications for safe practice and to regularly visit clinical areas/ National back exchange meetings to maintain awareness of current patient handling techniques. Be involved and support specialist manual handling practice by networking with other external manual handling specialists and or development groups. Work within and support the back care specialist team to promote best practice and safe systems of work for back care and manual handling across the Trust. Work with the team to deliver a strategy aimed at reducing musculoskeletal injuries within the Trust under the guidance and support of the Lead Back Care Advisor / nominated deputy. Deliver trust-wide mandatory manual handling training as part of the strategy to reduce manual handling and ergonomically related injuries. Provide support to unit-based Back Care Facilitators giving advice and guidance on manual handling update training at departmental/clinical level. Assist in the development, delivery and evaluation of manual handling training and education programmes and participate in audit activity as required. Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to others at all times commensurate with the appropriate professional code / Trust values. About us Work with the Manual Handling Training Coordinator and other Manual Handling Trainers to ensure the effective and efficient running of the manual handling training centre. Be responsible for the delivery of all mandatory central manual handling training to staff, both clinical and non clinical, and support the back care facilitator training system. Support, supervise and, where necessary, train with the unit-based Back Care Facilitators at departmental level, working with the back care advisors to adapt techniques to prevent back injuries and promote safe handling techniques. Promote recommended standards of practice, in line with professional bodies, during training, ensuring all measures are taken to promote the safety of staff and that any incidents/near misses are reported in a timely manner. Promote risk assessment within the training sessions as a tool to develop safe practices, safeguard staff, and to effectively communicate advice on back care and moving and handling to multidisciplinary teams. During training utilise creative approaches to meet learning needs of different staff groups, identifying and effectively managing barriers to safe practice through discussion, reassurance and problem-solving, acknowledging participants knowledge and skills within their speciality area.
