Biomedical Scientist/Specialist BMS - Haematology & Transfusion with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Bangor
Please note appointment will be made at Band 5 Annex 21, Band 5, Band 6 Annex 21 or Band 6 dependant on qualifications and experience. As a Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be required to work within professional standards expected as a registrant of the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional development (CPD). Duties as a BMS will include performing a range of scientific procedures involving the processing of specimens to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and investigation of pathological processes. The post holder will be required to conform to agreed standard operational procedures, policies and good laboratory practice and also within their work duties, comply with the standards as required of UKAS and other relevant professional and Legislative Bodies (e.g. HTA, BSQR). To demonstrate commitment and dedication to our staff we have a flexible recruitment and progression plan that consists of: Band 5 candidates: Band 5 Annex 21 for candidates with IBMS accredited degree who have not completed their IBMS Generic Training Portfolio with automatic advancement to Band 5 on registration. Band 6 candidates: Band 6 Annex 21 for candidates with HCPC registration and evidence of core competencies with automatic progression on completion of out of hours (24/7 working) competencies' and successful completion of IBMS Specialist Portfolio. The post holder will be required to work on a rotational basis through the different sections of the department, and may be required to work on any site within the Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board (BCULHB) area to enable continuity of service. On completion of the necessary competence requirements, Band 6 post holders will be required to cover 24/7 out of hours service working as a registered scientist to deliver safe and effective specialist emergency and core testing services requiring the post holder to : Support and advise laboratory support worker colleagues. Prioritise investigations in accordance to clinical need, ensuring optimum turnaround for urgent requests. Manage emergency requests, single or multiple. Liaise with IT and specialist equipment suppliers to resolve system or equipment failures. To respond to Major incident procedures should the need arise. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
