                                                    Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust in Plumstead, London

                                                     CONSULTANT PSYCHIATRIST IN GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRY   Greenwich Mental Health Hub    Plumstead Health Centre, Strandfield Close, London SE18 1BH   Permanent 1.0 WTE (10 Pas per week)   The post holder will be Consultant Psychiatrist to the Greenwich Hub  (formerly the Primary Care Plus Team (PCP)  with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. This post replaces one of the outgoing Consultant Psychiatrists. You will work alongside another full-time consultant in the team with support from junior medical staff. The Hub is the single/first point of access to mental health services in Greenwich, and is responsible for quick triage, assessment and where appropriate signposting to other services. You will contribute towards triage, diagnosis and oversight of medication.    There will have formal outpatient clinics each week, patients who attend these will be referred via other services within the Trust. On average in the Medical Clinics there are 4-6 patients and in the Assessment Clinics there are 2 patients in each clinic.     You will have supervision duties for the Specialty Doctor working within the team.   Regular training and supervision of staff is essential to maintain safe and effective clinical practice within the locality team.     The post holder will carry no responsibility for inpatients but will be part of the bed management strategy within the Directorate.    There is protected time for administrative work, as well as protected time to deal with mental health act related work including attending tribunals for patients on community treatment orders.     The post holder will have supervision duties for the Associate Specialist, GPVTS Trainee and Trust Grade doctor working with the team.     The Greenwich PCP Team was formed as part of the reconfiguration of Community Mental Health Services that occurred in September 2015. The reconfiguration of Community Services was part of the directorate's plan to ensure efficient delivery of mental health services whilst delivering high quality care.     About us  All teams comprise a cohort of experience practitioners from medical, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, and psychological therapy backgrounds. The PCP team which is described in more detail below works closely with GPS in the borough to provide interventions to patients with mental disorders.      Greenwich has a total of 254,557 residents living in 101,045 households. Approximately one-fifth (19.8%) of the Boroughs households are private rented, while 43.3% homes are owner occupied.     According to the most recent indices of deprivation (2010), Greenwich ranked as the 28th most deprived local authority district in England and 8th most deprived in London.    In February 2012, there were 24,790 people in Greenwich receiving out of work benefits (16.1% of the working age population. This compares with 12.1% for London and 12.6% for England.    The team falls within the remit of the Community Mental Health Transformation which has received funding as part of the NHS Long term plan.    Within Greenwich there is an Older Adult Team based at Memorial Hospital, a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team at Highpoint House and Plumstead Health Centre and an inpatient unit (Oxleas), based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, an Early Intervention in Psychosis Team, Primary Care Plus Team (PCP), an Anxiety, Depression and Personality Trauma Team (ADAPT) and a Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team.     PCP team operates from one team base: Market Street Health Centre, Woolwich    The Forensic Team that supports the directorate is based at The Bracton Centre in Dartford.      Rationale for Post Development   Demands have risen considerably during and post pandemic and there is now an expectation that there will be a further increase given service development and forthcoming structural changes.     We also have a significant increase in ADHD/ASD referrals and must conduct the initial assessment while often those patients with previously diagnosed ADHD and who have stopped medications are referred back to PCP for medication initiation and monitoring. These cases tend to remain for months and some of them have also been with us for more than a year after being declined by other services.   Although we will accept the initial referrals from GPs, these are redirected to our local ADHD Services.     Role of this post in terms of strategic service development/business planning Quality assurance, to minimise risk of SUI by having Psychiatrist in daily referral screening meeting, minimise complaints given the current longer waiting time between RTT and OPA and therefore delayed treatment plan with patients staying unwell for prolonged periods.
