Practice Nurse with St Mary Street Surgery in Thornbury
We are looking to recruit an experienced Practice Nurse who is highly motivated, proactive and positive to join our clinical team. You will need to be competent in all the usual practice nurse duties including wound care, compression bandage, cervical smears, baby and travel immunisations and pessary ring procedures. This post is a fixed term post for 6 months, 15 hours per week. We hold a PMS Contract in South Gloucestershire We use EMIS Web and Ardens We provide a full range of enhanced services. We are high QoF achievers We have an active working relationship with our PCN member practices We are looking for an experienced nurse that has held a practice nurse position in a General Practice. It's a busy environment, so you will need to be able to work under your own initiative as well as part of a successful team. Additionally you will need to be flexible and amenable to the changing demands of primary care. About us The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice nurse. There may be on occasion a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent on factors such as workload and staffing levels: a. Implement and embed health promotion and well-being programmes b. Provide routine nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical-based evidence, NICE and the NSF e.g. Venepuncture ECGs Cytology Samples NHS Health Checks Smoking Cessation c. Provide wound care (Ulcer/Doppler etc.) to patients d. Provide travel medicine services e. Request pathology services as necessary f. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation g. Administer adult injections h. Chaperone patients where necessary i. Assist GPs with minor surgery when required j. Prioritise health issues and intervene appropriately k. Support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies l. Implement vaccination programmes for adults and children m. Support patients in the use of their prescribed medicines or over-the-counter medicines (within own scope of practice) n. Liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.) o. Support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters, in accordance with local and national policies p. Understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriately q. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
