Deputy Ward Manager - Acute Medical Unit with Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Wirral
A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse with excellent leadership skills to join the Acute Medical Unit as a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager. The Acute Medical Unit is a 27 bedded inpatient unit that provides urgent care and assessment for a diverse range of acutely unwell medical patients. Ideally you will be someone who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment, and someone who can remain calm but responsive to ever-changing clinical demands. You will be expected to support the ward manager in many aspects of the leadership and management of AMU and to take charge of the unit in the absence of the ward manager. This post is a part time post with the expectation that you will rotate between day and night shifts and will also include some weekends. We are a friendly, positive team that strives to provide an environment that is supportive, enjoyable to work in, and which actively encourages learning, development and progression. AMU is a fast-paced, clinical environment which needs strong visible leadership. We are looking for a motivated, forward-thinking individual who can assist in managing, leading and supporting the AMU team and also the wider Acute division. The role requires someone who will contribute to a positive team culture, drive forward improvement and someone who can support the team to deliver high standards of patient care. A Deputy Ward Manager on AMU will need at least 2 years nursing experience, medical assessment nursing knowledge, and also be able to deliver a range of clinical skills to a high standard. A significant part of the role will be working as the AMU coordinator and having knowledge about the acuity/demands of all aspects of the unit throughout the day. To achieve this effectively you will require a good understanding of patient flow, and exhibit both problem solving and excellent communication skills. About us Having a positive team culture is essential in ensuring the efficient running of AMU and is crucial to delivering positive patient experiences. Effective communication between the various members of the multidisciplinary team is one of the most important aspects of working in such a fast-paced and demanding assessment unit. It is these positive working relationships that have allowed us to improve so many aspects of the service we provide for patients attending AMU. We need a Deputy Manager who will fit in well with this team ethos and who will help us to continually strive for high standards and positive change.
