We are looking for a motivated and experienced Band 3 Clinical Support Worker to join the Stoma and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Team based in the Colorectal Unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. We are looking to appoint someone with an interest in caring for surgical patients and help provide them with ongoing support before and after bowel surgery. This is an exciting post with a variety of day-to-day tasks. The post holder will be responsible for looking after a case-load of patients who are having surgery for bowel cancer and other bowel or urology conditions. We have a wide variety of patients ranging from emergency admissions to people having planned operations.
The role of the B3 Stoma/ERAS CSW primarily involves supporting people who have a stoma. This includes the day-to-day care of stoma patients but also helping patients to look after their own stoma care whenever possible. Some patients may also be part of an enhanced recovery (ERAS) programme which involves getting patients up and about quicker following their operation. The post holder will work within a specialist team and will be involved in many different types of patient care.
The colorectal unit in Edinburgh is the largest unit of its kind in Scotland making it a very busy department with many opportunities to learn and get a better understanding about looking after surgical patients and patients with a stoma. The input of the ERAS and stoma team is invaluable to these patients and the surgical team, especially following discharge home as this is often when patients need the most support.
The post is a fixed-term 1 year post for 34.5 hours per week. The role operates Monday through Friday with no unsociable hours. The shift pattern is for 3 9 hour shifts and one 7.5 hour shift : 07:30-16:30 3 days and one day 07:00-15:00
If you would like more information or to arrange an informal visit to the ward, please reach out to ERAS Nurse Pracitioner Angie Balfour :
We anticipate that these interviews will take place on Wednesday 9th April at the Comely Bank Centre
