Key duties/Responsibilities
1. Provide neuropathology diagnostic services for Kings College Hospital and Kings Health partners and The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN). This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department. Consultant Neuropathologists will supervise the diagnostic work of the CFN. The level of supervision will depends on experience and obtaining higher level of qualification and will be regularly reviewed by the lead clinician.
2. Reporting hospital and referred post mortem Coroners and Brain Bank brains
3. Contribute in teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance activities.
4. Responsible for organising various MDTs and clinicopathological conferences with clinicians at Kings College Hospital and IOPPN.
5. To contribute to the Audit Programme.
6. To conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for department of Clinical Neuropathology services.
7. To work in conjunction with clinical and professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for junior colleagues.
8. To be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training/updates in infection prevention and control.
9. To be accountable for implementation of the Code of Practice within own department/area of responsibility.

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Fellow in Neuropathology to join a busy Department of Clinical Neuropathology at King's College Hospital. The post includes 9 programmed activities for a period of 3 years (with the option to renew after this time) which provides an excellent opportunity for those who seek training in expending field of Neuropathology.
The department includes a large fully equipped and credited Neuro-histology lab (for surgical biopsies and autopsies). Neuromuscular lab and Electron Microscopy and Molecular Neuropathology Lab providing methylation arrange, next generation sequencing and whole genome sequencing for paediatric and adult brain tumours.
The successful applicant should have spent at least 1 - 2 years training in Histopathology and or Neuropathology. Successful completion or eligibility to sit the FRCPath or European ENF examinations is not essential, but would be an advantage.
The post involves assisting in the neuropathological surgical biopsy reporting rota (including diagnostic intro-operative smears) and molecular studies of brain tumours together with reporting on muscles and nerve biopsies.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to perform Neuro autopsies and autopsy brain examination for both hospital and for HR Coroner.
The department is closely associated with the London Neurodegenerative Brain Bank based in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the diagnosis of autopsy brains from the Brain Bank.
There will be good opportunities to get involved in research and teaching/training in the post.
