You will bring a range of public health competencies to the Council and also have the opportunity to further develop a wide range of skills.

This is an exciting Public Health role in a team dedicated to improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in Croydon in a small, fast paced and agile team. You will work as part of the public health team with a portfolio covering a variety of public health areas, working in small teams to provide public health advice and support to public health specialists within the public health department, to colleagues and departments across the health and social care system and to other partner organisations; to maximise positive impacts and minimise any harm to the population.

You will play a key role in managing change and transition within the public health department and in the public health function more widely, as well as day to day operational activities of the department. All Public Health staff will have a role to play in supporting and working closely with Public Health Consultants, the Director of Public Health and other departments in order to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for the population and to tackle health inequalities. The post holder will also develop and maintain key partnerships with primary and secondary care, clinical networks, the voluntary sector and the wider community.

You should be passionate about public health in local government and able to demonstrate: highly developed specialised public health knowledge acquired through relevant experience and master's degree (or equivalent); strong track record working towards improved health and wellbeing; have effective communication, negotiating and project management skills; and good understanding of the public health statutory responsibilities of the local authority in relation to health improvement, wider determinants of health, health protection and supporting NHS commissioners around health care provision. You have knowledge and working experience of current public health policies, and be able to use an evidence based approach in different areas of public health. The post holder may be asked to line manage staff.
