An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist post within Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (and Urology Area Network (UAN) which includes Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust). This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered. The post has arisen to allow expansion of the services delivered over the UAN, including our new state of the art Elective recovery HUB at Dewsbury
You will be based on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although as a team our consultants are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites (Dewsbury District Hospital (DDH), Pontefract General Infirmary (PGI)) including Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust (BHFT). All sites have outpatient facilities including, urology investigation units and clinic rooms. DDH and BHFT have elective inpatient surgical facilities; these patients receive post-operative care by Trust grade doctors and Advanced Care Practitioners. A timetabled consultant is always on-site Monday to Friday to review these patients if required. PGI offers additional day case surgical care. If emergency post-operative care is required, patients are transferred to PGH, or reviewed on-site by the on-call consultant. PGH is the center for major operating and acute work. Access to PGH for sub-specialist operating is divided between teams so that all consultants can complete their specialist work.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist in Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust and Urology area network with Barnsley Foundation Trust. This is from the expansion of services provided across both Trusts.
The post represent an exciting opportunity to join a group of Consultant Urologists in providing state of the art urological services to a population approaching 1 million. In a year the Urology department will see 27,500 outpatients and undertake 7,700 elective and 4000 non-elective procedures. The philosophy of the department is based on the active promotion of sub-specialisation whilst supporting the needs of general urology in the context of a Teaching hospital and urology area network (Barnsley Hospital NHS foundation trust). The present post holders have a strong track record in terms of research, teaching and remain committed to maintaining the high standards that underpin the excellent reputation of the urology department. The department has a track record in innovation and change in practice recognised by GIRFT as in the top tier of urological centres nationally. We have an established robotic service with plans to expand this further, across our sites. There are urology investigation units on all four sites, which are the beating heart of our service.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have an interest that compliments the current needs of the department.
The main duties of the post will depend on subspecialist interest and tailored to the successful applicants requirements.
