The Medicines Management Directorate has an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and committed registered Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

Our Band 5 Technicians are valued members of the multidisciplinary team at ward level and work as ACTs in the automated, Technician led dispensary. You will gain experience across a variety of clinical specialties, working closely with pharmacists and other health care professionals to deliver a high quality, patient focused medicines management service.

We Are Committed To The Development Of The Technician Role And Can Offer Excellent In House Training, where you will be supported and encouraged to further develop yourself.

Applicants must have a BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences Or Equivalent Qualifications to enable them to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council. The successful candidate must hold an Accredited Checking Technician qualification and be in a position to work towards the all Wales Accredited Medicines Management qualification if they have not previously completed it.

The main duties will depend on previous experience but will encompass: Working as an Accredited Checking Technician undertaking the final check and release of prescriptions

  • Dispensing and issuing prescriptions both in the department and at ward level
  • Participation in the ward based medicines management service undertaking accurate drug histories, assessing patients medication for suitability to use, organising supplies for patients use when in hospital and at discharge and providing advice and counselling to patients ( if not accredited you will be expected to undertake the all Wales qualification to allow you to undertake this aspect of the role)
  • Participation in the induction and supervision of new Pharmacy staff and acting as a mentor for junior staff

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
