Job summary

The successful applicant will be a doctor wishing to develop their skills and knowledge of Cardiology and internal medicine (in either Respiratory medicine, Gastro/Hep, Care of the Elderly or AMU). The post will be a combination of service provision, including out of hours and on-call duties.

The majority of the 12 month contract will be spent in the Bristol Heart Institute, with 20 weeks to rotate into a medical specialty of your choice. The BHI is a state-of-the art £57m centre dedicated to cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac imaging and cardiovascular research. The Department of Cardiology provides a secondary and tertiary service for Bristol and the surrounding area, and the facility includes five catheterisation laboratories and a hybrid catheter laboratory/surgical theatre. The BHI provides the 24/7 primary angioplasty service for the immediate catchment and the wider network. Outpatient clinics for general cardiology as well as specialised clinics including heart failure, valvular heart disease, electrophysiology (EP), intervention and Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) take place in the BHI.

Main duties of the job

Clinical: ward based duties to include routine review of patients, progressing care, prescribing, requesting and evaluating relevant tests, liaising with all medical and allied health professionals.

Education: there are educational opportunities throughout the working week including Consultant led teaching sessions, journal club in Cardiology, General Medical grand round and core training.

On-call: the successful applicants will join the existing medical SHO on-call rota throughout the post.
