Higher Biomedical Assistant - Band 3 - Clinical Microbiology - £24


A Higher BioMedical Assistant (BMA) works as part of the technical team, supervised by experienced Biomedical Scientists and managed by the Laboratory Team Leaders and Operational Head of Department.

Once trained a BMA is required to assist the Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners.

Supervises and/or train less experienced staff in own area of work.

The post holder will be required to work on sites as appropriate for the delivery of the service and may be asked to work across sites within the trust.

The post holder will be required to support a 24/7 service.


KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS


Under the direction of team leaders, Biomedical Scientist and Associate Practitioner staff.

Communication will be required with all professional, medical, and nursing groups within the hospital trust and externally e.g., General Practitioners.


KEY RESULT AREAS


To participate in the routine work of the laboratory in accordance with laboratory procedure in an efficient, cost effective and safe manner.

To carry out, under supervision by qualified staff, routine tasks in the laboratory which do not require the interpretive skills or training to become a Registered Biomedical Scientist.

To rotate between all the sections of the laboratory as required.

To assist in the provision of a microbiological service that is of high quality and cost effective for clinical, environmental, research and training purposes.

To participate in the routine work of the laboratory in accordance with laboratory procedure in an efficient, cost effective and safe manner.

To help maintain the accreditation requirements of UKAS as appropriate.
