Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust for a Care of the Elderly Clinical Teaching Fellow (ST Grade) in Medical Education based in Weston General Hospital (North Somerset Academy). This post is 8 sessions teaching and 2 sessions clinical, based in Care of the Elderly. It is available for one year commencing 7 August 2024. The post offers the opportunity to become intensively involved in the education of medical students whilst maintaining clinical exposure and experience in a supportive educational environment. This post is suitable for those who have just completed their Foundation Programme training as well as those who have undertaken ST1-2 training. You will be joining a wider team of Clinical Teaching Fellows in North Somerset Academy as well as in other Academies, to become part of a faculty that has the specific remit of teaching medical students.
Main duties of the jobThe prime function of the post is as a teacher delivering core content and providing tutoring and pastoral support for Medical Students in year 4 (Complex medicine in older people unit) of the Undergraduate curriculum of the University of Bristol. Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTF) are expected to undertake a Medical Education Certificate course of their choosing (from an approved list) and there is also an expectation that CTFs will be involved in educational research, and there is a good track record of successful projects.
8 sessions a week will be allocated to Teaching and 2 sessions are allocated for clinical work in Care of the Elderly.
This post is not recognised by the Royal Colleges for General Professional Training or by the Royal College of General Practitioners for Vocational Training. The post however, is educationally sound and well supported with ongoing appraisal.
