Building a sustainable tomorrowBAM Nuttall require an experienced Health & Safety professional to join us in the North east of England and support the delivery of projects in the region. You will be based in Leeds or Newcastle.

Your mission- advise key managers and supervisors at BAM Nuttall sites, depots and offices of statutory health and safety requirements
- provide key managers with assistance in the preparation of risk assessments and in the development of project execution plans
- liaise with area directors by attendance at safety and review meetings
- support key managers appointed as BAM Nuttall representative with respect to the principal contractor's duties under CDM
- regularly inspect BAM Nuttall work locations and activities, preferably accompanied by a senior member of the site staff
- verify that temporary works procedures are implemented
- submit inspection reports to the key managers with copies to the relevant personnel
- monitor subcontractors during site visits to ensure that safe systems of work are being adopted
- assist in health and safety audits to the audit programme
- ensure that all lost time injuries, significant incidents, reportable diseases, near misses and dangerous occurrences are thoroughly investigated and reported detailing causes, conclusions and recommendations to avoid recurrence
- collect data accident book entries
- participate in the provision of staff training as directed by the director
- assist in the provision of safety training for site operatives
- report in writing monthly to the director, health and safety on the implementation of the policy
- provide site safety engineers with advice, support and encouragement in order that they may fulfil their duties effectively
- co-operate with the regulatory bodies in connection with their site visits
- co-operate and liaise with Client safety teams
- provide advice on occupational health surveillance and monitoring arrangements
- assist in the production of health related risk assessments
- keep abreast of health and safety legislation
- suggest, communicate and promote initiatives for incident prevention
Who are we looking for?Your qualifications, skills and experience should include:
- Successful experience as a Health and Safety Advisor within a construction environment, qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma) or related discipline or appropriate proven knowledge and experience (minimum of 3 years).
- Able to communicate at all levels within the project organisation and external stakeholders
- Able to deliver any health and safety training as instructed by the Director, health and safety.
- Able to act as a team leader.
- Thorough knowledge of OHSAS 450standards.
- Achieved or are moving towards Chartered membership of IOSH.
- Capable of leading accident investigations.
- Have Business acumen with full understanding of the commercial impact of decisions and building relationships with Client personnel.
- Knowledge and experience of operational activities desirable.
