We are looking for a dedicated Clinical Director to join our team here at Heathside Veterinary Surgery. We have a busy and varied caseload including laparoscopy, orthopaedics, BOAS and cardiology. The perfect candidate will be enthusiastic in contributing to the ongoing development of our medical and surgical caseload, in house training and in delivering the highest level of customer care. This is a full-time role, with no night duties and 1:5 weekends, a weekend on is followed by a 4 day 'weekend'. CPD is encouraged and funded.

Heathside Veterinary Surgery opened in 1998 and has a strong, loyal client base with a strong focus on preventative care and high clinical standards.

We are a small but busy practice located on the beautiful Hampshire Coast Line, enjoying the tranquillity of small-town life whilst being located between two major cities, Southampton, and Portsmouth. We pride ourselves on our preventative medicine and aiming to provide gold standard care, being able to offer many in-house procedures that would normally require costly referral. We have a friendly, compassionate, supportive team of vets and nurses.

The practice has both abdominal and cardiac specific ultrasound scanners, Holter monitor, DR radiography, digital dental radiography, Endoscopy, bronchial and Gastro-intestinal, Bronchoscopy, Rhinoscopy, Laparoscopic surgery, Surgical laser, 4 Anaesthetic monitors, Orthopaedic equipment including MMP, DCP and SOP kits.

We regularly use Class 4 laser therapy for arthritic cases and wound healing.

Join our experienced and collaborative team

We are a team of 5 Veterinary Surgeons and 7 Veterinary Nurses. We have a certificate holder in Cardiology who is also studying towards a Medicine Certificate. We do most of our own in-house orthopaedics, including MMP's, MPL, fracture repair and the majority of our own medicine investigations. We also have vets trained to perform Laparoscopic procedures. We have 1 Practice Manager, 7 qualified nurses and 3 trainee nurses at all levels of their training (we take great pride in being a nurse training practice for the past 25 years), 2 practice administrators and 2 receptionists.

You will be required to work 40 hours a week. There is a weekend rota which you will be required to work. There is no out of hours work required with this role.

Your day to day duties would include but are not limited to - Supporting a team of 5 vets, welcoming graduates if required, clinical work such as surgery and consultations, overseeing high clinical standards, making clinical decisions and working closely with the practice manager to achieve goals and objectives.

Management duties

*Ensure that staff are given appropriate leadership, guidance, development and appraisal.

*Ensure all Health and Safety policies are adhered to within the Practice.

*Be responsible for the financial performance of the Practice including the achievement of the EBITDA as set out in the Practice Budget and Business Plan, working towards a Vet: Sales ratio of 4.5x.

*Be responsible for the clinical staff rotas.

*Attend and participate in IVC meetings as requested.

*Communicate regularly with your Business Support Manager under the guidelines of Clinical Director Powers and Authorities.

Clinical management duties

*Ensure practice achieves and maintains RCVS Practice Standards Scheme registration.

*Set the clinical objectives aligned with IVC Clinical guidelines and the 'What does good look like' standards.

*Comply with the legal obligations in relation to prescription, safe keeping and supply of Veterinary medicinal products.

*Ensure that all client complaints are handled sensitively and in accordance with the IVC Complaints Policy.

*Ensure that referrals to specialist vets are made appropriately and that wherever appropriate within the IVC referrals network.

*Promote clinical best practice and encourage peer review of cases.

HR duties

*Apply and follow all IVC policies and procedures relating to HR.

*Promote wellbeing within your practice.

*Recruit, manage and discipline staff in accordance with IVC policies and procedures.

*Review pay of all staff on an annual basis in accordance with IVC policy.

*For all staff ensure the following: Right to work checks are carried out, Employment contracts are in place, Up to date Job Descriptions are issued, Appraisals actioned at least once a year.

*Ensure that Vets and Nurses within your practice carry out CPD to develop themselves and the practice.

*Promoting and supporting Diversity and Inclusion within your practice.
