Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse - Squirrel Endocrine and Metabolic


Do you have experience in caring for children with Endocrine or Metabolic conditions or is this something you would be interested in us supporting you to explore?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for qualified Band 6 paediatric nurses to join our friendly and welcoming team on Squirrel Endocrine and Metabolic Ward. We are looking for nurses with leadership experience, who seek to deliver high-quality care to children and young people.

Squirrel Endo/Met Ward is a busy area with 8 beds, specialising in endocrinology and metabolic medicine. The patients are often very highly dependent, requiring frequent blood sampling and complex intravenous infusions. We would support you to develop your high-dependency skills within the speciality. We care for a variety of children and young people with complex healthcare needs requiring both long and short-term admissions. We care for a diverse age range of patients from newborn to 18 years, but the main age group would be neonates to toddlers. Some of the conditions are incredibly rare and interesting and you would learn lots of specialist and transferable skills.

We would consider appointing an adult nurse into the position if you had relevant experience and utilise your previous nursing skills with our paediatric population.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high- quality nursing care to children, young people and families.

To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.

To assist in the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocated resources.

To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice.

To undertake delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Ward Manager /Team Leader.

To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2.
