The opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the multidisciplinary team of the Intensive Care Unit at Ninewells Hospital

Our Critical Care Services are situated on two sites, approximately 25 miles apart. You will have a primary base within the Intensive Care Unit, Ninewells Hospital and will work flexibly across the other three units within Critical Care Services.

Critical Care Services, as part of the Surgical Directorate comprise of five units; two Intensive Care Units within NHS Tayside, one 8 bedded unit at Ninewells Hospital and one 3 bedded unit at PRI (Currently located on the Ninewells site), an adult Surgical High Dependency Unit of 10 beds at Ninewells Hospital, a six bedded Medical High Dependency and an 8 bed combined adult General High Dependency/ Coronary Care Unit at PRI. The role of these services is to work in a single system to enable the effective delivery of high quality patient services for level 2 and level 3 in-patients.

You will work as part of the Ninewells Hospital Intensive Care Unit team fulfilling a dual role of healthcare assistant, including general healthcare assistant duties, clerical, administrative and housekeeping / infection control duties. You must be able to work independently, prioritizing workload in an environment that is constantly changing. We are looking for someone who is organized, with excellent communication skills and good IT skills. Familiarity with NHS systems such as TRAKCARE & PECOS would be beneficial

You will be required to undertake any necessary training , to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.

Hours of work 37 hours per week


NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
