Job Overview


An exciting opportunity has become available for a health care assistant to work within the pre assessment department. The department is currently open Monday – Friday 07.30hrs – 17.30hrs.

The health care assistant will undertake preoperative clinical assessment for patients who have been deemed suitable for the low-risk pathway prior to patients having elective surgery using a protocol-based triage system. It is an opportunity for health care assistants to develop new skills under the supervision of a registered nurse.

The health care assistant must be willing to develop further skills as the service adapts to required necessary. You will be fully supported by a registered health care professional overseeing patient responsibility and will be provided with an induction, and training competency assessment for all development roles.


Main duties of the job


Willingness to expand and update clinical knowledge and skills and to participate in ongoing training to demonstrate level of competency.

To ensure all patient information is communicate with the registered nurse.

To be able to manage own workload effectively under the overseeing supervision of the nurse in charge.

To undertake triage/assessment for patients who are deemed suitable for the low-risk pathways

To correctly follow guidelines and work within the guidelines set within the department.

To escalate any clinical issues or concerns regarding patients’ well-being, to the nurse in charge.

Accurately recording and documenting patient information.

To acknowledge and complete any patient investigations required including venepuncture, ECG’s and STOP BANG assessment.

You will be provided with a competency based support package to enable you to learn the required duties of the role which will be overseen by a registered nurse. The department is currently going through a period of change and advancement to help support our elective recovery programme and your commitment to the department will help ensure that improvements are made in the most sufficient way.
